Preliminary research

The invitation to tender is open to all topics. This can be a new question/task or a more advanced topic that follows/builds on a completed project.

Objective

The aim of the preliminary research is to further develop existing strengths and to sustainably strengthen the research activities of the university. Institutes, competence centers and professors who are active in research can apply for project funding, which will be used for preliminary research. This start-up funding is intended to raise additional third-party funds from industry, foundations or within the framework of government research programs through scientific R&D applications, and later through follow-up projects.

Activities

The invitation to tender is open to all topics. This can be a new question/task or a more advanced topic that follows/builds on a completed project. A sum of up to 35,000 € can be applied for per project proposal. Full-time professors of the TH Nürnberg are entitled to apply, with the exception of the project leaders of the preliminary research projects 2019 and 2020. Thus, the research and development work at the university is to be placed on a broad basis.

Partner

Professors of the university are participating.

Success

The program enjoys great popularity among professors. This can be seen in the high number of applications every year. In addition, an evaluation has shown both short-term and long-term success.

Short-term successes:

  • Increasing number of publications
  • Acquired follow-up projects with public institutions
  • subsequent contract research
  • Involving students in initial research projects

Long term successes:

  • Increase in contract research and services
  • more and more cooperation with scientific and economic partners, spin-offs
