HKA is not only one of the largest and most research-intensive universities of applied sciences in Baden-Württemberg. With our broad spectrum of subjects from engineering, computer science, economics and design, we are able to place teaching, research and further education on a broad knowledge base. Students, teachers, researchers, but also cooperation partners and clients benefit from the interdisciplinary exchange and work. The guiding themes that guide our actions are digitalisation, sustainability and cooperation at the HKA.

Research

Our aim is to contribute to the future viability of the society by conducting research and development with actual practice and applicability. To sustain this overarching objective, or researchers address the essential requirements of mobility, resources, information and labour within the following research focus areas:

• RFA “innovative mobility concepts” – configuration of future mobility systems:
  new and advanced development of vehicles, conservation, operation and future proof transformation of infrastructure, integrated city and traffic planning, sustainable mobility management
• RFA “resources and climate” – efficient application of resources:
  model and data-based development of new materials, energy-efficient configuration of heating and cooling systems, optimization of fluid transport
• RFA “intelligent systems” – Development and application of sensors, machine learning, communication networks and information systems for automatization, for improvement of human-system-interactions, for decision making in all areas of economy and society
• RFA “labour and production” – transformation of working environments for automated manufacturing techniques, for interconnecting of industrial processes, for utilization of collaborative and autonomous robotic systems considering the new role of man in production processes
