Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences

Responsibility. Networking. Diversity. Impulse.

The Kaiserslautern University of Applied Sciences is a university of applied sciences (HAW) with a technical focus on technology, economics, design and health as well as computer science as an integrating cross-sectional competence. We train around 6,200 students in over 50 courses and further education offers with around 550 employees and around 150 teachers at three study locations in Kaiserslautern, Pirmasens and Zweibrücken. As a research-oriented and application-oriented university with four identified research focuses, we inseparably link studies, research and development and transfer.

Research

The research we carry out is interdisciplinary, application-oriented, and ensures the future viability of the university with its unique range of courses offered. It covers a broad spectrum of socially-relevant topics and issues, and generally takes place in cooperation with industry partners. With the establishment of the applied research focus areas, the Hochschule Kaiserslautern has been on the way to improving its research profile for many years now. These research focus areas involve university-wide cooperations between Professors that work on externally funded projects. They are designed to be interdisciplinary and pioneering. After an invitation for proposals, followed by an external audit, the university’s senate committee established three focus areas as early as in 2005. In 2016, a fourth research focus area was added. Currently, all focus areas are funded by state research initiatives as part of measures to improve the region’s research profile.
