Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences

Founded in 1995, Hochschule Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences (H-BRS) is a dynamic and research-oriented public university for applied sciences in the Rhineland. It has campuses in Sankt Augustin, Rheinbach, and Hennef with approximately 9,000 students and around 1,100 employees, including over 150 professors and nearly 250 lecturers from academia and industry. The university offers practice-oriented and research-based studies in around 40 degree programs in the departments of Management Sciences, Computer Science, Engineering and Communication, Natural Sciences, and Social Policy and Social Security Studies.

Research

In its development strategy, H-BRS has committed to a strong focus on research and knowledge transfer. Since 2010, the university has been addressing major societal challenges by specifically developing key research areas and establishing interdisciplinary research institutes. The central objective is to bundle research activities on forward-looking topics with high innovation potential and to strengthen them sustainably through interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary work and international cooperation.

The 17 research institutes focus on the following areas of research:

• Sustainability, Resource and Energy Efficiency

• Visual Computing

• Life Sciences and Health

• AI and Autonomous Systems

Overall, H-BRS is active in more than 60 fields of research. Through its numerous collaborations with regional and national businesses and research institutions, H-BRS researchers are well connected. H-BRS is also active in international and EU-wide networks. After six successful project participations in Horizon 2020, three projects have been secured under Horizon Europe so far.
