Geisenheim University

We create strategies for a sustainable and livable future!

The teaching and research activities of Geisenheim University (HGU) cover the entire value chain of speciality crops and their products (viticulture, oenology, international wine business, beverage technology, horticulture, plant physiology, soil science, logistics of fresh produce, food safety) as well as a commitment to the sustainable development of cultural landscapes, tourism, landscape planning and architecture.

HGU was founded in 2013 as a ‘new type’ of university through the merger of the Geisenheim Research Institute with the Geisenheim campus of the RheinMain University of Applied Sciences. The university combines internationally renowned research with applied, practice-oriented teaching in all areas of our unique range of subjects. The cross-cutting issues of sustainability and climate protection are an integral part of all degree programmes and are the focus of our research.

Research

Our university offers unique opportunities to conduct scientifically outstanding and at the same time practical research along the entire value chain of special crops.

Our research focus:

Our research is both theory-based and focused on practical applications. Through various collaborations, we have created a strong network with renowned universities and research institutions, as well as industry partners and associations in Germany and abroad. In the future, we will need to make greater use of the enormous potential of our network, as today’s most pressing issues have taken on a global dimension and can hardly be tackled by individual institutions, regardless of their size. That is why we are working together as a cross-border network to meet the many challenges facing our industries with clever minds, smart solutions, commitment and perseverance.
